Deadline for entries into Uckfield Business Awards fast approaching

If you want your favourite local business, or even your own business, to receive the recognition it deserves in the inaugural Uckfield Business Awards, then now is the time to do it - as the closing date for entries (7 September) is fast approaching. All those companies in the running will then be invited to attend a glittering Awards ceremony, which is taking place on 1 November at the East Sussex National.

"On that night we will be celebrating all that is great about business in Uckfield," says Adrian Corbin from Uckfield-based Scientifica, who is organising the awards - alongside The Marketing Eye, with the support of Uckfield Chamber of Commerce. "We always knew that Uckfield had plenty to feel proud about in terms of the quality of products and services it offers and the Award nominations to date have backed that up."

In total, there are 15 Awards, including nine which companies can put themselves forward for, such as Best New Business, while other categories can be nominated by members of the public.

"We couldn't have organised the Awards without the kind support of a variety of local businesses, which have stepped forward to sponsor the different categories, as well as the main sponsor, Parker Building Supplies," says Adrian Corbin.

Award categories include Tradesperson of the Year, sponsored by Parker Ceilings, an award which honours the skills and dedication of Uckfield's tradespeople - many of whom are self-employed and work on their own. Judges will be looking for evidence of excellent customer service and outstanding work. Nominations can be made by customers, a fellow tradesperson or by self nomination.

There are also categories for Innovation and for Environmentally Sustainable Businesses. The Innovation Award is sponsored by Knibbs Computer Services and highlights Uckfield's creators and innovators. To win this award, you will need to demonstrate new product, service or process innovations that have had a significant impact on your business, or have the potential to do so. Innovation doesn't have to be technical - it could just as easily be in your operations, your marketing or your customer service.

Sponsored by Simmons Gainsford, the Environmentally Sustainable Business Award supports the fact that being environmentally friendly is no longer just a marketing hook.

"Today, sustainable businesses are at the centre of the modern economy," says Neil Edwards from The Marketing Eye. "This Award will be given to an Uckfield business which is environmentally sustainable, not necessarily just in terms of its products, but in terms of its business practices and values too."

He continues: "With the deadline for Award entries fast approaching - now is the time for Uckfield companies to shout about the work they are doing and for the public to step forward and nominate those businesses which they most admire."
